Susan J Lapham is an abstract textile artist who is endlessly curious about what might happen next. Raised on five continents, speaking three languages, and managing four brothers, she developed an early appreciation for complexity, adaptability, and the unexpected.

With degrees in cartography and statistics and a four-decade career in research, Susan brings an analytical mind and a playful spirit to her art. She is fascinated by the tension between structure and spontaneity, and by what happens when familiar ways of thinking are challenged. Her improvisational process is driven by exploration, experimentation, and a willingness to change her mind.

Her work has been widely exhibited and has received numerous awards. Susan teaches workshops and lectures that encourage artists to question assumptions, embrace uncertainty, and discover their own creative possibilities. She lives and works in Vienna, Virginia.
